COST OF LIVING

Cost of living Nicaragua

Dear Spanish student, welcome to our city. Here you can get an idea about the costs of living in Esteli.

Arrival

If you arrive in the evening at the airport we recommend you to stay one night in a hotel in Managua and travel to Esteli next day.

Transportation

The bus station in Managua for Esteli is located at the Market Mayoreo.

There you will find two types of busses. The “Ordinario busses” and the “Express Busses”.  Ordinary busses usually are old Bluebird School busses ( Chicken busses) which means no luggage compartment.
Express Busses are more comfortable and have a separate luggage compartment. Sometimes they also show a movie by traveling to Esteli. You may be issued a paper”ticket” on busses to Esteli- don’t lose it, as that could be an excuse to charge you again. It is better to be there one hour in advanced. So you can make sure to get a ticket for the bus.
Bus stations in Nicaragua are often huge, chaotic lots next to markets where you can find many sellers yelling their products. It may seem difficult to navigate, particularly if you don’t speak much Spanish. Fear not! There are always guys yelling “Esteli, Esteli, Esteli”. Just ask them for a ticket. It’s  recommendable to pay with cordobas.

Hiring taxis between cities could be a comfortable and reasonable option for midrange travelers.
